Footbridge from the "Cité Universitaire"

Paris

The construction of the footbridge is part of the overall redevelopment of the Parc de la Cité, and will link two parcels of the park. It will also allow occasional lorries to pass through, to improve traffic flow through the park. The layout and design of the footbridge are based in particular on the presence of buried networks and the need to cross a vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian path. The footbridge comprises two spans, joined at the center by a double pier of variable cross-section, and supported at the east and west ends by abutments. The entire structure is supported on piles. The bridge is slightly domed. In plan, the bridge is approximately 40 meters long. The west span, with a 22.4-meter span between supports, is slightly curved. The east span, with a 15.8-meter span between supports, is straight. The structure is extended to the west and east by a transfer slab, supported on one side by the last span of the footbridge and on the other side by a shallow foundation in the embankment. The footbridge consists of two lateral box girders and steel crossbeams, resting on support units at the abutments on a "star" frame on the intermediate pier. Connected concrete slab deck with bituminous coating. The metal railings are illuminated to highlight the curvature of the structure.
