Centre Aqualudique Aqualagon, in Marne-la-Vallée

As part of the development of a resort village in Marne-la-Vallée in Seine-et-Marne, the Villages Nature du Val d’Europe entrusted the construction of the water complex to architect Jacques Ferrier. The project comprises three separate entities: the water pavilion containing the swimming pools (110×80 m with a maximum height of 27 metres), the air pavilion featuring a 17-metre high tower called the “Air Pavilion” and the outdoor lagoon with swimming pools to create a total bathing area of 2,500 m2. The capital of the water pavilion is made of a mixed wooden and concrete structure resting on High Performance Concrete columns. The challenge was to geometrically streamline this folded surface inspired by the origami forming a garden open to the general public. In general the roof comprises a succession of ramps and glass walls supported by 52 oblique beams resting on lattice girders over a variable height tangent to its surface. The study includes the analysis of the transfer of humidity in the roofing complex in collaboration with CSTB in order to check that there is no fungal risk in the roofing complex. The real fire stability analysis was performed with the Efectis firm. The study was carried out in collaboration with engineers Henry Bardsley and Wolfgang Winter.
